Orders valuing over £½ m have been placed with Powershield for doors on the prestigious T5 project at Heathrow airport in London.
Powershield Personnel and Fire doors and frames are being supplied to fit-out specialist contractor Swift Horsman in both Terminal 5a and the Train & Tunnel System.
With the project nearing completion a fast turnaround was paramount. Quality had to match the high standards set by BAA and following a supplier appraisal process it was clear that Powershield offered the superior service, in terms of both quality and service.
Powershield supplied the doors and frames with integral wraparound stainless steel kick & push plates and a factory-applied polyester powder coated finish. All doors were also fully prepped to receive the customer’s preferred hardware.
Terminal 5 is considered to be the largest construction site in Europe and the world’s most successful airport development. It has been designed to accommodate up to 30 million passengers per year. The new home of British Airways occupies a 260ha site and includes 60 new aircraft stands, a quarter of which facilitate the new Airbus A380.
The main terminal building is over 400m long and consists of 5 floors including a spectacular rail station on the basement level of Concourse A. The rail and tunnel system provides a full passenger interchange to London’s public transport system and a Track Transit System to move passengers from the main building to two satellite buildings.
